                 DECISIONS WHEN BUYING

      As with any purchase there are many decisions to be made. After the  shine of the showroom has worn off of the bells & whistles.  Reality sets in that someday you might have to do some repair work on unit. 

     We understand the simpler the system, the less there is to go wrong. We could have added bells & whistles, but chose to try and offer a system as simple & reliable as possible. Some offer what they call a IDLE SMART SYSTEM ( Control Panel turns off engine when desired A/C temperature is reached) then re-starts engine when more A/C is needed. This could result in the engine stopping thousands of unnecessary times resulting in excessive wear on the starter. Some of us wake up if a engine changes RPM's a little, what if engine died? What about when it re-starts? How many times would this wake you? We are still trying to figure out the advantage of this.

   We have a Hi-Lo Engine speed switch located on the Control panel. If customer knows that 115V current is not needed. This switch can be set to (Lo)speed which will lower RPM's. This lower RPM setting will provide A/C or Heat but will not provide 115V current as the 115V generator is not turning fast enough to produce 115V current. This lower RPM setting will provide better fuel consumption resulting in a extra  savings in fuel to customer.  When customer desires 115V current the switch can be set to (Hi) speed to increase the engine RPM's.

    We understand unfortunately that anything mechanical is subject someday to require maintenance. If there was a problem it needs to be fixed as fast & least expensive as possible, because Trucker could be anywhere. Any of the switches & relays that make our unit operate can be found at local parts stores for less than $10.00 regardless of your location. Any auto, truck shop could do repairs, if trucker did not want to do his own repairs.

    Compare that with a control panel from one of the brands that has the auto start and other bells & whistles. If their unit had a problem on the road, who would work on it? How long would you have to wait for some of their parts? Would their unit be able to be repaired on the road without a long delay or have to be brought to dealer? Would you have to wait until you returned home for repairs? Would you like to pay $500.00 to $1000.00 for one of these control panels when the warranty runs out?  These are things the truckers needs to take into consideration. We think you will agree with us that simpler is better.

     BELOW ARE ITEMS TRUCKER NEEDS TO COMPARE WITH OTHER BRANDS

1. Whats involved in replacing the Alternator? ( Ours is easily replaced by removing front panel would take about 15 minutes to replace. )  Some brands have the 12 Volt Alternator mounted behind the engine it is barely visible. Think about the extra expense to replace theirs if you are paying a repair shop. 

2. Whats involved in replacing the Starter? ( Our starter can be replaced by removing front panel) Removing right panel would make job even easier.

3. What involved in replacing the A/C Compressor? ( Ours is replaced by removing front panel) Removing Right panel would make job even easier.

4. Whats involved in replacing the 115V Generator? ( Ours is easily replaced by removing front panel) Removing right panel would make job even easier.

5. How hard is it to replace the belts? ( Our Right side panel removes to make this a simple job)

6. Where can I find parts if needed? ( With our APU's, Electrical, A/C parts, hoses, belts can be found at local parts  stores regardless of your location)

7. Are Mounting Brackets made to allow up & down adjustment of APU on truck frame?  ( Our brackets are adjustable to allow Top of APU to be above, even or below top of truck frame.)

8. Is engine cooling system separate from truck cooling system, to make a True Stand Alone Unit? ( Our   unit has it's own radiator to make it a True Stand Alone Unit). 

9. Is A/C Condenser mounted on case for less efficiency? ( Ours is a Heavy Duty 2-Fan remote mounted condenser, mounted away from the  APU for the best efficiency). Some brands attach the A/C Condenser to the case resulting in less efficiency from heat of case. The A/C Condenser is one of the most important componets in the A/C System. If it is under size or mounted next to heat for less efficiency it will effect how much BTU cooling you will have regardless of how big a BTU evaporator you install.Don't let anyone convince you that a A/C Condenser mounted on a case will be as efficient as one remote mounted away from the engine heat in the APU. Mounting on case also limits the size of condenser that can be used.Will their size condenser mounted next to the engine for less efficiency allow you to add more BTU Cooling if needed? OURS WILL!!

   Our remote A/C Condenser allowed us to have a removable side panel to make any necessary adjustment or repairs easier. Those brands that mount condenser to APU case cannot do this.

 10. Air Filter-- Ours is a large canister filter for better flow & longer filter life. Our filter draws fresh cooler outside air to engine intake. Some brands use a small throw away filter mounted inside case letting hot air inside case enter engine.

These are some features we invite you to compare  against  other brands. Some brands were more interested in Bells & Whistles than helping customer find parts or repairs if needed.  

       

   

 

                            KG1000X & KG1000 MAX

 

     Tired of sleeping with one eye open because of concerns about your truck engine running while you are trying to rest ? Would you like longer intervals between oil & filter changes on your truck engine, less wear & tear on main engine, use less fuell than your truck engine, have a unit with safety shutdown on oil pressure & engine temperature ?    Our KG 1000X & KG1000MAX  Stand Alone Units will do this for you. We use the Yanmar  2 Cyl Diesel water cooled engine. Yanmar is known world wide for its Reliability, Dependability & Longevity. This is a Universal Mount unit that attaches to the frame of truck. Our APU's  have their own radiator cooling system & exhaust system. This makes them a True Stand Alone Unit

 

                                                  ADVANTAGES

  • Engine air intake draws outside air through vent in case. This cooler outside air helps reduce the engine exhaust temperature which will result in better performance,  dependability &  fuel economy. 
  • Only 19" of  truck frame space needed to mount unit.
  • Belts, Hoses and many other parts can be found at discount parts store regardless of your location to save you money.
  • Engine is water cooled not air cooled, for better dependability, performance & longevity.
  • Engine provides hot water to operate heater in sleeper

     As you can see there are many advantages of our unit that will be a big savings to you. In time the unit will actually pay for itself.  We understand that anything mechanical unfortunately could some day require repairs. We realized that you would probably be on the road if this happened. Any repairs would be needed to be made as fast, easy & least expensive as possible. That is why we designed these units so Belts, Hoses, Electrical Relays, Switches, A/C Parts etc, could be purchased at local Discount Parts Stores regardless of where you were,  to save you money. Your unit will not be down waiting on some special belt, hose etc to come in. In the event you did not want to do repairs yourself, any Automotive or Truck repair shop could do repairs.

                                                                                                 





  ENGINE SELECTION

   There are many different engines that could be used in these applications. one Cyl, two cyl, three cyl, air cooled, water cooled. We knew two cylinders would have less vibration than a one cylinder engine. Also the one cylinder engine would have to be run at a higher RPM, trying to provide enough HP, effecting Reliability and Longevity. So why strain or over work a engine to perform a task?    We also knew a two cylinder engine would provide necessary HP so a three cylinder engine was not necessary.

   Some are using air cooled engines. We knew this was not the best  way. Air cooled engines normally operate at higher temperatures than water cooled engines. Air cooled engines normally come enclosed in a metal shield to control air flow around engine. Now they are put inside another case which will probably increase the temperature of engine. This will increase temperature inside case which could help over heat the starter and alternator, effecting their reliability.  Don't you believe that if the air cooled engines were better and more reliable they would be in our automobiles and trucks?  We believe  Kenworth, GM, Ford, Peterbilt, and other manufacturers figured this out a long time ago.  They might be a little lighter in weight, but would you rather have something a little heavier that would perform better and last longer ? We sure believe so.

    That is why we chose the Yanmar 2- cylinder water cooled diesel engine. Yanmar is known world wide for it dependability,  performance & longevity. 

    





    CONTROL PANEL

The control panel, has hour meter, Ign Switch, Glow Plug Switch, Start Switch & Hi-Lo Switch for engine RPM's.  In many situations the operator does not want 115V Current, only A/C or Heat is needed. In these situations the engine RPM's can be lowered by the Hi-Lo Engine switch on Control Panel. This will lower engine RPM's for better fuel efficiency & reduce engine sound. In the lower RPM setting 115V Current cannot be used because engine is not turning Generator enough RPM's to produce 115V.



  ENGINE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM

   Engine exhaust temperature is one of the most critical factors in any engine application. If the engine exhaust temperature is too hot there is a  chance of valve or piston failure, the least problem you could expect is a loss in engine performance. That is why we do not  let warmer air inside the case enter our engine.  We draw fresh cooler air from outside the case through a vent on right panel. The fresh cooler air passes through the air filter then into engine intake.


    This cooler air entering our engine  will result in a lower exhaust temperature. This creates better combustion in cylinders,  resulting in increased HP, which means better performance,  fuel economy & reliability of  the engine.





   A/C SYSTEM

   There are two types of A/C cooling systems.The 115V system & the automotive style systems. We realized the many advantages of the Automotive A/C system over the 115V system.  We understand unfortunately that anything mechanical is subject to give a problem someday. If it happens parts or repairs would need to be done as fast and least expensive as possible, because more than likely you will be on the road.  Imagine trying to locate parts or repairs for a 115V system while on the road. Bad enough if you were at home.  

   That is why we used A/C parts that could be found at local parts stores to save you money,  regardless of your location. In the event you did not want to do the repairs, the necessary repairs can be done at any automotive or truck repair shop.

    Customer has choice of connecting 4-vent evaporator into the existing ductwork in sleeper or mounting vents for evaporator. Kool-Gen will furnish material for either application.  





COOLING SYSTEM

   

    There are two ways for these engines to be cooled. ( Really there are three, but we don't consider the air cooled systems a good option).  Some competitors connect their units engine cooling system into the truck cooling system. We believe this is not the best way. ( 1st ) If main truck engine had a problem in the engine cooling system. you could not operate the unit until the truck was repaired. (2nd) If either cooling system became contaminated ( such as oil in the cooling system) & this has happened or for other reasons. It could do damage to both systems & both systems will be down at the same time. Now you have the extra expense of repairing two systems.( 3rd ) It will put extra water connections into a common system, increasing the odds of having a water leak at a hose connection or hose failure that could damage & shut down both systems. So why take the chance ?

   That is why our units have their own radiator cooling system. This makes ours a true Auxillary Stand Alone Unit.  The radiator is mounted on left side panel.  A plastic coolant recovery tank comes with unit. No need to remove radiator cap to fill unit,  just keep coolant level in recovery tank.

   Remember if your truck was down with a cooling system problem, with a true stand alone unit like ours, you could be cool in the summer & warm in the winter while sitting on side of road waiting for the hook or while having truck repaired.





 CASE & SUPPORT SYSTEM


 

    The case left side, right side, front & top are made of 1/8" Aluminum Diamond Plate or Polished Aluminum. The bottom  & Back Panels are made of galvavized Sheetmetal. 

    The Case dimensions are 27 1/2" high x 24" Deep x 19" Wide. So 19" of frame space is all that is needed to mount unit.  The radiator mounting on left side makes it 23 1/2" in total width, but does not effect frame space needed to mount unit.

Weight : Approx 425 Lbs   ( There are items we could have used that would have made our units lighter, such as Air Cooled engines, smaller 1 Cylinder engines & operate them at a higher RPM )  These units will travel many years & many thousands of miles with you. So having something lighter that may not be as reliable, or perform as good could leave a bad taste in your mouth. The engines, A/C System, Frame Strength Material in our units are what we use, to be able to offer you the best performance &  relaibility possible.    





EXHAUST SYSTEM



     The exhaust pipe inside the case is a 1 piece pipe that is insulated.  We use an Automotive Residential style muffler to reduce noise level.  This larger size muffler also reduces any chance of exhaust back pressure on engine, resulting in lower exhaust temperature which means better performance, reliability, longevity on engine.  Any mechanic will agree the lower the engine exhaust temperature is,  the better it is for the engine.

   The muffler system is supported by the case assy not the truck. This is part of our True Stand Alone design.

A drill, hole saws, drill bits are about all the special tools needed. For those who do not want to install unit we can furnish installers.

           Due to the many different truck applications it is next to impossible to furnish everything that could be used in installing APU on truck. When we furnish installation there will be an additional $150.00 Misc Fee that will cover items not in above list and extra items needed in a standard application per list below.

         Normal Standard Installation Fee $600.00 + $150.00 Misc Fee

          Any labor work not considered a  standard installation or changes Trucker wants from a standard installation that requires additional labor or material will be billed at $70.00 an hour + material by installer. Such as moving Fuel Tank, moving Chain Rack, moving tool boxes etc. This can be discussed with Installer before starting project.

            Due to the many different truck applications it is next to impossible to furnish everything that could be used when installing an APU. When we furnish installation a Misc Fee of $150.00 is added to labor fee. Below is a list of items that would be in the Misc Fee.

                KG1000MAX Normal Installation Fee $600.00 + $150.00 Misc Fee.

          Any labor work not considered standard installation such as Moving Fuel Tank etc. Or any changes Trucker would want to make from our standard installation requiring additional labor or material would be billed $70.00 Hr + material.

  • 115 VOLT SYSTEM

       The 115V Generator is engine mounted & belt driven, it will provide 3000 Watts surge & 2500 Continous Duty Watts while the A/C is in operation. This is sufficient current to operate a coffee pot, toaster, hair drier, TV, microwave, how about a crock pot ?  There is a recepticle that mounts in sleeper.

       In the event the operator knows 115V Current is not needed, all that is needed is A/C or Heat then the Hi-Lo Switch on Control Panel can be set to lower engine RPM's. This results in better fuel efficiency & less engine sound. At this lower RPM setting 115V Generator is not operating at enough RPM's to produce 115V AC Current.  When 115V current is needed switch can be set to the higher engine RPM's. 

       Notice the Starter, A/C Compressor, 115V Generator, 12V Alternator can be serviced by removing the front panel also the right panel is easily removed to make belt replacement or other repairs even easier. Compare this feature to some other brands. Some other brands you can hardly see the 12V Alternator, 115V Generator etc. Remember some day you might have to replace these items when your warranty runs out.  With our design any repairs can be done in a lot less time than some other brands which will save you money.





    MAINTENANCE

    • Oil is checked  by removing top cover, dip stick is on top  of engine.
    • Oil & Oil Filter are changed by removing Bottom Rear Panel. This engine has a larger capacity oil pan which allows Yanmar to extend the oil change interval to 500 Hrs not the 250 Hrs as with some other competitors. 
    • Air Filter Assy is located inside the case. Remove top Cover to access filter element.
    •  Fuel Filter Assy is in a remote mounted unit, so it will be easy to access to replace filter. 




     WARRANTY

       


         The  2- Cylinder Yanmar Diesel Engine has a factory Warranty of 2 Year or 2000 Hours, against defects in material or workmanship.    Kool-Gen will  Warranty  all other componets against any defects in material or workmanship for a period of 1 Year.
